Sivaji.. The Boss…

Rajini’s first reaction on Sivaji

Looks like Rajini’s plans to stay away from the Sivaji hullabaloo have taken a U turn. The superstar is back in town winding up his brief pilgrimage to the Himalayas - that is customary of him after wrapping up his movies. Since Sivaji’s prints were not ready when the superstar flew to the snow capped mountains of Himalayas, he viewed only the first half of the movie that was edited.

Now that Rajini is back in town and the movie is ready to hit the screens, AVM invited Rajini for an exclusive preview show of Sivaji. The movie was showcased to Rajini and his family including Latha Rajinikanth and daughters Ishwarya, and Soundarya in the AVM preview theatre.

Sources present at the venue revealed that Rajini was obviously elated at the outcome. We could not make another movie of this kind even if we tried; Rajini was quoted as saying. Sivaji has exceeded even my expectations, the superstar added.

Now that is enough to churn out more expectations amongst the already frenzied fans.

Shankar & Rajini – missing in action

Director Shankar is always known to be highly optimistic about his movies, and Sivaji is no exception. In fact the director was bold enough to admit that he is extremely satisfied with the outcome. But then, Sivaji is no ordinary movie. It is a movie where the most powerful name in Kollywood – the Badshah of Style - superstar Rajini is involved. Obviously it qualifies as a must see film even before its release.

Theatre owners are having a tough time, as the pressure mounts with the release date nearing, as people from all walks of life are expected to take time off from their hectic schedules to watch The Boss in action. Generally Shankar goes on a vacation with his family only after his movie hits the screens. But this time, the director, to cool is heels off has advanced his vacation two weeks earlier. Even Rajini, who has flown down to the Himalayas, will return only two weeks after the movie is screened in theatres.

With their conspicuous absence, both the director and the superstar will miss out the real life action. Looks like Sivaji's mammoth success will welcome them both on their return to Kollywood.

Shankar’s prophesies on Sivaji

Most directors feel nervous with the impending release of their movie. But Shankar is feeling so optimistic and confident about Sivaji. The director recently said in an interview, published by a leading daily, that he is under no pressure and is extremely confident that Sivaji would become a super hit. He also added that it is his most satisfactory picture till date.

Shankar praised the superstar’s performance and had some good words to share about Shreya, the heroine of the movie. Vivek – Rajnikanth combo in the first half is expected to be a laugh riot. Looks like a wholesome family entertainer is in store for us if Shankar’s words are anything to go by.

The theatres too are gearing up for Sivaji, which has garnered publicity in epic proportions. Many new technical improvements have been done in major theatres to give that extra quality and some theatres are ready to show the movie in all their screens. The booking of Sivaji will commence on 10th June, Sunday, and the theatres are expected to be over crowded not only by the fans but also by police, as they will have to control a massive crowd. And just to keep a check on this, theatre officials have decided to open the ticket counter early in the morning. Go Sivaji

Sivaji Countdown Meet

Rajini fans are planning for a big party in Chicago to celebrate the arrival of SIVAJI the boss. Hard core Rajini fans from Midwest are planning to get together in Naperville, IL. Event highlight will be live band performance with super hit songs of super star, including SIVAJI.

‘Naan M.G.Ramachandran’- Sivaji: The Boss

The wait is agonizing for any Rajni fan. We have been counting days right from April and we are still counting not knowing when Shankar actually plans to get Sivaji-The Boss in theaters. Shankar does have a strong mind of his own, how else can we explain this delay in Sivaji’s release, AVM is never known to have a late release and all previous Rajni films have hit theaters on the announced date without fail, even when he had suffered a dislocated shoulder on the sets of Baba.

Another thing, there is always an uncanny way in which different versions of the story of a Shankar movie find their way into the press. There were umpteen versions of Anniyan’s story doing the rounds until the movie released and proved nearly all of them wrong. In this context, it is hard to believe anything that you hear about Sivaji’s story.

But then, it is a Superstar movie and who wouldn’t want to know even the smallest detail about it. The style, the action, the punch dialogues and the Superstar phenomenon unleashing itself on the screen frame after frame. Three hours of unabated thrill, excitement, cheers and a two year long wait attaining fulfillment. For the Rajni fan this is nothing short of Nirvana; salvation. So, for those of you who are dying to know what your idol (sorry, our idol) will be doing on screen this time round we have something. It is not exactly a rumor as Sivaji has already been screened to a select audience but it is not straight from the horse’s mouth either. This is what you may see on screen from June 15th (if Shankar does not get any further ideas of improvisation). So read and imagine how Superstar will parade his majesty on the big screen, deliver the dialogues with peerless style and enthrall us all. Please don’t bridle your imagination if you want to enjoy this. Sivaji is this rich man to begin with, trying to take education beyond just the rich people into the poor but deserving population. He opposes bribery, corruption and all the vices that plague the system (please keep imagining the Superstar doing these things). He makes enemies, as will anyone who tries to do any good to the society. The enemies hatch a plot and decide to get Superstar out of their way. The plan nearly succeeds but Sivaji survives and escapes to the United States (living to fight another day) where he gathers his forces and plans his comeback; in style. When he comes back he is not the same man who left India, his head is shaved and he now has a deadly killer look about him, after all he is out to destroy those who conspired against him. At a certain point in the film one of his adversaries (possibly unable to identify him in his new get up) asks him (now imagine clearly the Superstar on the big screen) ‘Who are you’?---------- ‘ Naan M.G.Ramachandran’ comes the reply.

Take our word; this scene will make fans go crazy, three generations will break into frenzy in unison as Superstar introduces himself. Sivaji-The Boss, please release soon, this wait is getting too much for us.

Theatres all set to feature Sivaji – The first list

The Boss is all set to arrive in style. The much-awaited Sivaji's first phase of release for Chennai city has been finally announced. The details are as follows: Abirami Cineplex which includes Abirami, Annai Abirami, Bala Abirami and Sakthi Abirami will all ignite its screens with The Boss. Udayam will showcase the movie at all its four theatres.

Albert and Baby Albert, Santhi and Minisanthi, and both the theatres at the Jayapradha Theatre complex will also feature the movie. Of the six screens at Sathyam two will feature Sivaji. Not to be left out of the race, Inox Multiplex will also accommodate superstar in its three theatres

Sivaji: the rat race for the rights

The stage is set for the King to arrive, its time for the pretenders to move aside, the royal march is about to begin; make way for Sivaji-The Boss. Come May 31st and cinema halls will choke with crowds, theaters will reverberate with the thunderous applause of the Superstar’s fans; as he sets the screens on fire.

But then, before all this can happen, there are a few issues that need to be sorted out. And when the issues are related to Sivaji’s distribution we all know that it will involve serious negotiations to settle them down.

The Chennai zone issues seem to have been settled with Abhirami Ramanathan and Nag Ravi laying their hands on the rights. Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur and Nilagiri have been bagged by Tiruppur Subramaniam. The competition for Madurai, North Arcot, South Arcot and Chengelpattu are on full swing as the distributorship rights for those areas have not been decided yet; more so with the release date just round the corner. While Anbu and Azhagu are vying for Madurai, some big names including Oscar Ravichandran and Ananda Pictures Suresh are in the fray for the Chengalpattu and Arcot areas.

Meanwhile, few have voiced their opinion that Sivaji be bought only on the MG-FH basis. However, Tiruppur Subramaniam is strongly opposing this demand. He pointed out that Rajini is not a man who would allow people to incur losses due to him. The compensation that he paid for Baba is a fine example. Baba notwithstanding, the huge profits that everyone made due to Chandramukhi should be enough for them to repose faith in Sivaji. He also said that there had been no compulsions for anyone to buy Sivaji at an MG rate. If there were no takers, AVM is more than willing to release the movie all by itself.

It was the Theater Owners Association that had come up with the MG-FH demand. Tiruppur Subramaniam made a point that associations getting involved unnecessarily was undesirable and that they must remain as inconspicuous as possible.

Well, those were the details of the rat race going on to make the maximum out of Sivaji. After all, it is only once in two or three years that the Superstar’s movie is being released. Here we leave you with a statistic that will give you a measure of Sivaji’s magnitude. Sixty prints have been ordered for the Coimbatore area alone. Still not surprised then read on. The previous highest was just 36, and that was for Pokkiri. Maybe now you get our point, this is what we call the SUPERSTAR effect.

Uncertainty in Sivaji release in Kerala

In Kerala the confusion that has arisen over an agreement between film chambers and 48 theatre owners is expected to create trouble in the release of Rajni's Sivaji. In Kerala the film chamber and theatre owners from 48 screens across the state have entered into a pact. According to this the producer of a film will be supported to a certain level financially by theatre owners and in return the producer will screen his movie only in these 48 theatres.

In case the film flops, the incurred loss to the theatre owner will be adjusted in the subsequent films of the producer.

In this present scenario the Kerala film chamber has decided to release Sivaji in more than these 48 theatres which has annoyed the theatre owners. They insist that Sivaji should only be released in their screens as per their agreement. But the film chamber counters this argument by stating that the presiding rule applies only to Malayalam films and does not hold good for films from other languages.

Two individuals selling Sivaji tickets arrested..

The word Sivaji has been associated with hype and hoopla ever since Rajinikanth had signed on the dotted lines for AVM Production. Anything and everything associated with the magnum opus is lapped up by the general public.

Now comes another news on the movie's tickets. Special token tickets issued specifically for Rajini fans associations have been sold by two individuals in the black market near Rakki theatre in Ambattur.
The manager of the theatre getting to know of the illegal sale reported it to the Ambattur Industrial Estate police station.

Both the individuals have been quickly remanded in custody and are being investigated by the local Police. The source through which the accused have got access to the token tickets are still not known.

The ticket sales of a movie for which the release date is yet to be officially announced is something that is unheard of in the Tamil Cinema history.

Sivaji's Telugu rights sold for a whopping amount..

Anniyan is making great waves in Andhra Pradesh as well. The audience and the industry there are keen to see more of Shankar’s films. In fact, the top stars there have expressed their wish to work under him. Fuelling the desire is the announcement that his next film will be with Superstar Rajinikanth. Well, a producer called Tirupathi Prasad has already bagged the Telugu rights of Sivaji for a mind boggling sum. He had wanted to produce a Telugu film on a budget of Rs. 40 crores to be directed by Shankar. But, Rajinikanth and AVM bosses requested him to postpone the project. He agreed and therefore has taken only the Telugu rights of Sivaji.

Superstar Shaved his head for the Climax Scene

Thalaivar has bald his head for an important climax scene in Sivaji the bosss. I don’t remember if thaliavar as acted like this before. But if scenes or stills like this appear in this movie, definitely no one will be able to control the enjoyment of the crowd in the theaters!

Rajini's Sivaji was a dream for Trisha but Rani plays it

The upcoming film of Rajini's Sivaji was absolutely making a solid ground for Aishwarya Rai to act in it. It is rumored that if film sources could not get the dates of Aishwarya, then the next option is for Trisha. Trisha was under the assumption of getting an opportunity in this film as Rajini once appreciated her performance when she met him during the Ghilli functional gathering. But presently it is understood that Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji is the pair for Rajinikanth in Sivaji and she is given a big amount for that.

Shankar ropes in A R Rahman for Sivaji

Shankar and A.R. Rahman have been a potent combination giving wonderful music for great films. All their seven projects together have been box office hits. In the recent Anniyan, Harris Jayaraj was the composer. Although the songs did well, the background score did not jell well with the movie and was not much appreciated by the audience. Therefore, Shankar is interested in bringing Rahman back with the Rajini film, Sivaji. Rahman has already scored music for Rajini’s Muthu, Padayappa and Baba. Since the songs of these films were chart toppers, Rajini is also keen that Rahman should compose the music for Sivaji.

Shankar wants to stick to 'N' sentiment

Shankar will be the director of Rajini’s next film, Sivaji. Since he is known as the big ticket director, he carries theburden of high expectations. Shankar’s hit films have had titles ending with ‘N’ – Gentleman, Kadhalan, Mudhalvan, Indian and Anniyan. His other films like Jeans or Boyz did not do well. So, Shankar would prefer to have his lucky title. Therefore, we could soon have a new name for Sivaji.

It will be Rajini and Aishwarya Rai in Sivaji....

Now that we have the formal announcement that Rajini’s next film will be Sivaji under the AVM banner, interesting bits of news about the film keep cropping up. Within two days of the launch, the film did business worth Rupees Seventy crores. It has been decided that Rajini will receive twenty crores out of it. Besides, talks are on to romp in Aishwarya Rai as the heroine of the film. She had been approached for Baba, but could not do the film because of lack of dates. She has also evinced keen interest to act in a Tamil film after a gap of so many years. She could say yes quite soon. Watch out for more developments.

Rajini and Shankar amalgamate.....

Yeah! The ever expected combo of Rajini and Shankar comes true. They both have decided to do a film under AVM productions. The interesting fact is that Rajini is joining hands with AVM for the 9th time and for Shankar it is the 9th directorial venture (7 in Tamil and 1 in Hindi). Also, it is said that the lucky number for Rajini is 9. It is the 168th film for AVM.
Shankar is busy in preparing the script. It is well known that Shankar concentrates for the script and works leisurely at pace and hates deadlines.
Also, there is a buzz that the title of the movie would be Sivaji. But the director says that “It is too early to talk about the film including its title. Let us first firm up the script”. The talk in trade circles is that the movie could do a business of 100 crores, b’coz of the simple fact that the director returns after the hit of Anniyan and for the hero it is after Chandramukhi. Both are creating records in the film industry.
